MEET DAVION

Davion R. Lewis is a lifelong educator and community servant. Throughout his career, Davion has been a fearless and tireless advocate for children and families, working in some of the most challenging and vulnerable communities across our county.

As a first generation student of color and college graduate, Davion personally understands the importance that a great education plays in creating opportunities for social mobility, economic freedom, and personal and professional success. For Davion, giving our children a great education is how we lift communities out of poverty, end the classroom to prison pipeline, and help our children live up to their God given potential.

Today, Davion is the Executive Director of The RISE Schools, a public charter school network in the Metro Atlanta area. Davion has been an educator for the last 13 years working as a teacher, coach, school administrator, board member, and consultant. As a result of his work, Davion has been featured in the AJC, EdLANTA, the Georgia Charter Schools Association, WSB-TV channel 2 Action News, and WXIA-TV 11Alive News, to name a few.

Davion earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethune-Cookman University, his Master of Business Administration degree from Clayton State University, and is now completing his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning from the University of Buffalo, where he has also served as an adjunct instructor. His doctoral research is focused on the way public education assesses and defines success for black boys.

Davion is also very involved in his community and has volunteered on various nonprofit boards.

A trait that was developed at an early age by his mother, Davion was raised to find fulfillment in being of  service to others. Today, he’s grown to take joy in helping those around him become successful.

This is reflected in one of Davion’s favorite quotes, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”-Shirley Chisholm. Davion holds membership and/or leadership roles in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. the Bethune-Cookman Alumni Association, the National Black MBA Association, the NAACP, and the Fulton County Democratic Party.

Davion is an avid runner, tennis player, and self-proclaimed foodie. When not at work, doing community service, or fulfilling his duties in one of the organizations he belongs to, Davion is usually at home reading, enjoying a good television show, and spending time with his miniature Schnauzer, Bizzy.
